There have long been popular examples of nerd culture, whether highly rated TV shows like “Big Bang Theory,” or the “Star Wars” and “Star Trek” movie franchises. The latest crop of crossover nerd-friendly entertainment, however, whether TV series like “Game of Thrones” or “Silicon Valley,” or comic-book movies like the year’s top-grossing title, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” are of a different character – comfortable in the mainstream and safe in assuming that once-fringe obsessions like computers, text-communication, gadgets and comic books and science fiction are increasingly everyone’s obsessions.
